Diplomatic recognition - Diplomatic recognition, in international politics, is an act or statement on the part of a state acknowledging some degree of legitimacy of another state or government, and, typically, expressing its intent to bring into force the legal consequences of recognition. Recognition can be accorded de facto or by act of law (de jure), or, alternatively, on an ad hoc basis.
